Several people, whose reactions I respect, have written to me off-list,
admonishing me (correctly, I believe) for my reply to Mr. Korg's post
about "amateur psychotherapists." I stand corrected and contrite.

Mr. Korg, I sincerely apologize for my rash and insulting remarks. They
were ungentlemanly of me and unwarranted in any case. I can only offer
the feeble, but honest, excuse that I was coming down with (and am now
coming out of) one hell of a head cold and I was feeling testy in the
extreme. It also seemed to me you were saying that anyone practicing
Psychotherapy without an M.D. -- even a Ph.D. psychologist licensed by a
State Board of Examiners -- is an "amateur." On reflection, I'm certain
that misconception isn't at all what you meant, and apologize for that
too.

In any case, there's no doubt that EP suffered from crippling depression
in his later years. But what's far more important is that he wrote some
of the most sublime poetry in our language before that.

Your humble servant,

John Corey
