Notes for this week:
* The above RPI rankings are unofficial.
* RPI is very close to the RPI method used by the NCAA, as it uses
the 25-21-54 portions. I know of no mathematical basis for this
proportioning. An NCAA statement, as shown on the CHN web site,
says the two proportioning schemes leave team ordering intact.
As anyone may clearly see from the above table (assuming the columns
line up), RPI and RPIORIG vary significantly.
* RPIORIG is the more mathematically correct (25-50-25) method used
by the NCAA for the 4 seasons preceeding this.
* RPIHOME is an ill-advised attempt to "pay" teams for winning
on the road. Luckily the NCAA never used this method
* KRACH is a superior method for measuring a season. Too bad the
NCAA has too much bureaucracy to seriously considering adoption.
* If you are interested in the method the NCAA *will* use to select
NCAA tournament teams, please see the "PWR" sections of USCHO or CHN.
Note for 2006-2007: Though RIT plays sufficient D-I games this season to
be eligible for the D-I NCAA Tournament, it is ineligible until the
2007-2008 season.
Game scores for these rankings have been provided by US College Hockey
Online, sometimes supplemented by other sources. USCHO's composite of
all Division I men's ice hockey games is available at
http://uscho.com/
in the section marked Men's Division I schedules.
In addition, http://collegehockeynews.com/ has extensive information
about KRACH, its underlying methods and history, as well as the methods
used by the NCAA.
The CHODR ranking, if present, comes from Robin Lock of St. Lawrence
University at http://it.stlawu.edu/~chodr/current.html
