I have a thought.
 
Do you suppose that since the tournament is on, that Maine only wanted to
keep the sign up until the end of the year that Maine had the championship.
 
The alternative being, as you may have seen on the Mass Pike, the rather dated
signs for Mass. being 1998 1-AA football champs ?  I mean, they are NOT the
current champs...
