The U.S. Hockey Report website reports that Peter Szabo, who signed a letter of intent to play at Maine this winter, will be going to St. Cloud State instead. Apparently, Szabo didn't score high enough on the English-as-a-foreign-language test to satisfy UMaine admissions requirements and was thereby unable to enroll at Orono. St. Cloud's minimum score on the test in question is lower than Maine's, so Szabo was able to enroll there immediately.
The report said Szabo is a significant loss for Maine and gain for St. Cloud St. Among his strengths are his playmaking ability and his ability to take draws.
The report said UMaine made a last-minute attempt to get Szabo qualified for admission, but it was too little too late.
