I too like the move of the students from being scattered all over the
Alfond to one, hopefully very loud spot. However I disagree with Jeff
about the band. I was at Hockey Madness when the Pep Band went up to
their new seats and played us a tune or three. I love having them up
there! I think the sound carries out over the ice and the rest of the
arena much better from their new location. Not to start an argument but
Jeff's comment sounds like NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) to me. The
hearing of your children, you and the hearing of all Umaine fans is a
concern to the University. They are not going to knowingly expose anyone
to unhealthy noise levels. Remember, the action level (that is the
decibel level where OSHA requires a hearing conservation plan) is 85db
over a time weighted average of 8 hours. The band doesn't play loud
enough to shorten the time weighted average or long enough to meet the 8
hour criteria during a hockey game. Will it be loud? Hopefully! A
college hockey game is a place to cheer, shout, applaud, encourage and
yell for the team. The Alfond has been too quiet for too long.

I would like to hear some fan comments about the new
student seating
arrangement and the new location of the band in the
balcony. Are you
happy with the University's lastest change?

Personally, I am happy to see the students move to
balcony, but not
happy with the move of the band. My seats are right
below the band and I
am very concerned about the noise level that my toddler
son will have to
                deal with.

                Just my 2 cents.
