Commissioner's Corner:

We announced a contest this week, designed to get fans involved in
selecting the top 15 moments
in Hockey East's first 15 years. Fan ballots have been distributed
through the nine arenas and 16
MVP Sports locations. Fans will actually choose from 42 nominated
moments from the first 14
seasons. An expert panel from the nine Hockey East schools' areas will
cast ballots with a later
deadline, allowing them to include special moments from this, the 15th
season. Two lucky fans will
be drawn at random from the ballots submitted and will receive a
special "Getaway Weekend" in
Boston, including two nights at the Sonesta Hotel, tickets to the
Hockey East Championships at
the FleetCenter, VIP passes, and more. Runners-up receive tickets and
other gifts. The original plan
was to send people to Anaheim for the NCAA's until we discovered that
the NCAA Tournament
cannot be used in such a contest unless the sponsors involved are NCAA
corporate partners. Some
of ours were not ... If you get a chance to see our new tournament
poster, please know that the
piece was designed by Cazzie Smith, daughter of U.S. Women's Olympic
Coach Ben Smith.
Cazzie directs her own graphic design company out of Beverly, MA ...
Next fall, when the
1999-2000 Hockey East season faces off, the league will announce its
Team of the 1990's. The nine

fans should try their hand at this and compare with the coaches' final
selections. -- Joe Bertagna
