        No one is claiming that Pound read Egyptian, but there are
hieroglyphics in the later Cantos.
        Terrell's appendices of foreign words give some idea of Pound's
linguistic range.He is perhaps  better called a polyglot than a linguist,
but no doubt achieved more verbal facility than a professional would, and
in any case his performances in this department are surely exceptional.
