SYRACUSE, NY ( March 2, 2000)   Syracuse, NY (March 2, 2000) - The
Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Vancouver Canucks have
returned left wing Steve Kariya and center Josh Holden to Syracuse. The
Crunch also announced that Kariya has been named the February AHL
Rookie of the Month.
 
Kariya, 22, appeared in nine games for the Crunch during the month of
February, recording a team-high ten goals and 14 points. In all, Kariya
has appeared in ten games for the Crunch, recording 11 goals, five
assists and 18 penalty minutes. In 45 games with the Canucks this
season, Kariya collected eight goals, 11 assists and 22 penalty
minutes.
 
A native of North Vancouver, B.C., Kariya scored three short-handed
goals in his ten game stint with Syracuse, tying a team record for most
short-handed goals in a season. He set another team record by becoming
the first Crunch player to score four goals in a game (February 18 vs.
Albany).
 
In recognition of being named AHL Rookie of the Month, Kariya will
receive an etched crystal trophy
during an on-ice presentation at an upcoming game.
