Dear Demetres,

I am so sad to receive this news. I've been thinking of the many
conferences where I have spent time with Burt--Pound Conferences, the
Modernist Studies Association, the NPF conferences in Orono. None will be
the same, as is the case for the study of the poetry he loved and to which
he devoted his life. And personally, I will miss his witty, smart,
expansive, and generous spirit. I know I am not alone in that. Bernie is
right--a giant.

All my best,
Catherine Paul
