Dear Dan,
 
It's a related issue, I suppose.  Pound's preferences regarding
Christianity conform to a prevalent pattern.  He attacks Protestantism for
its obvious similarities with Judaism.  Catholicism, I assume, is tolerated
since it allows a certain amount of paganization-Pound often associates
Mariolatry with the cult of the mother goddess.
 
Thus, the lamps lit by worshippers of Mary "flicker red in small jars" in a
"sea streaked red with Adonis" (Canto 47).
 
I am happy about your reference to the bardolatrous critics.  I was one for
more than a decade.  At that time, I was under the impression that you were
one, too.
