a better response than I expected - there is still hope. I noticed this
sort of thing, it is partly why I am here. If there is any character from
which to learn how to break through the existing malpractice, it is
Pound's - the professional. And I am 24, so I have, hopefully, about half a
century to try and do something about it. I'll be the Dr Sweeney of
literary criticism, and will start with looking at Eliot through Pound.

This sort of thinking has not been fashionable for decades in the American
Academy. Secondary lit has become as important primary lit in English
Departments here, if not more so. Welcome to the world of fin de siecle
criticism. Such recommendations will become more and more common as
literature disappears from our depts.
