and then, from the Pisan DTC, we have the well-known

   "there are no righteous wars"

It's pretty hard to be d'accord with this line IF you see what's going on here in
Europe, just a good jet-hour from our doorstep. I neither understand how there
can be serious people on this list saying they don't "care a damn" for what's
going on out there; nor cd I accept the posture of "please not on this list".
Do these people really believe we can afford reading EP in some kind of academic
vacuum, as l'art pour l'art or I nice research object for New Criticism freaks
or intellectual crosswoord puzzlers?

(Re-)Read Mauberley. It's almost 80 yrs old, but it's all in there.

And, besides, EP - with all the "wrecks and errors" about him - LIVED it; his
poetry, at least 80% or even more, is immensely political. It became political
when he lost friends in WW1 and thru the New Age people. And VERY much later he
says that "if one's friends hate each other/how can there be peace in the world".
That has a strong PRIVATE implication, but still it holds true. So either let
"the kings meet in their island", as he hopes in D&F, or there CANNOT be peace.
The kings' ambassadors met, to no avail. They met VERY often. They have tried
their best to find a diplomatic solution. Diplomacy had lost.

Well, and? Just turning our backs on the 500.000 refugees, the tortured, the
murderers, the slaughter? -

Season's Greetings to all you Pounders -
