there's an interesting book called _Explaining Hitler_ by Rosenbaum.
Hitler's baby picture is on the cover.  This is a whole subject apart from
Pound, but the various theories on how Hitler became _Hitler_ are broad
and extensive.  my point, however, was that the only way to explain
without excusing is to include everyone as possible evil-doers, and no one
wants to think about themselves that way.  so we dance around pointing
fingers instead.
