I don't think I have an axe to grind here, especially, and I might be quite
mistaken about Mr Korg's tone, but I seem to detect something sour, even
arrogant, about his dismissive phrase 'amateur psychotherapy'. It's as if
'psychotherapy' alone, without the adjective, would have been enough to
disqualify it in any contest of evidence with the established
(psychiatric?) science of hospital records. Yes, the hypothesis concerning
Pound's mental health needs evidence, from St. Elizabeth's or anywhere else
if possible, but Redman's term was 'undiagnosed manic-depressive (bipolar)
disorder', which I (though amateur) would consider quite as much a
psychiatric as a psychotherapeutic term. I do hope I'm wrong about this
tone, and apologize to Mr Korg if I am, but could John Corey's comments
(wise in my view) from the point of view of a licensed psychotherapist of
the dreaded Jungian variety, be triggering a bit of fearful 'resistance' in
those, like Pound, who are ill-disposed towards psychoanalytical
interpretations?
