this is a very funny remark.  it's as if Paul doesn't know who signs his
paycheck, or what an editor does.  I've known many journalists, and every one
of them knew what subjects they could -- and couldn't -- write about, and
what slant they could -- or couldn't -- take.  and with few exceptions, each
of them had an inflated sense of themselves that you could float a full-page
obituary on.  this is particularly true at the Washington Post, whose
editorial policy is more in tune with that of the Heritage Foundation than
with the rank and file of everyday life.
