I recall this story only vaguely, but maybe it will
help. Faulkner came to Italy about 1924 with a friend
and planned to visit Pound. They got as far as Genova,
where the friend got into a drunken altercation and
ended up spending a night in the cooler. Shy Faulkner
didn't have the nerve to go find POund. I understand
he wrote a story --or started a novel?--that uses the
episode, though it was never published. Still, the
unpublished story would be a fine source if you could
locate it. It's out there somewhere, because I heard
someone was working with it.
