This is ME-HOCKEY, but I'll take the other side of the fence on some
of Deron's comments. :-)

Deron wrote, in part..

>Steve Kariya really got shafted here in my opinion. ...

Perhaps. I think too much emphasis may have been placed on scoring and
not necessarily "total game", though I'll admit to seeing few non-Maine
games. I'm anxious to see, for example, a UNH-Clarkson battle to see
just how good those UNH forwards are.

I suggested that I would disagree with Deron, but I'll add my own
"Huh?!" to this. Matile, Robitaille and Larocque were clearly better,
IMHO.

Here's where we part. We can use the same argument as Deron did for
Noble to see that Alfie has poor stats and Matile had excellent stats.

An "All-Star" team is not the team of best players over the last month
of the season, but for the entire season.

2nd-half comeback player of the year: Alfie!

>Matile was also a red shirt freshman who didn't have to get used to college

>contributed to his personal problems.

This may help explain why Matile had a better year than Alfie, but I
don't see why it should cause anyone to vote for Alfie.

>I don't expect the non-Maine people to agree here, but Alfie Michaud
>rebounded well and made himself into one of the better goaltenders in the
>league. ...

Exactly!

>Also, one award not mentioned is the team sportsmanship award which Maine won.

"Team sportsmanship"? Is this the perennial MC award for least penalty
minutes or analogous to the individual sportsmanship award. Or is the
individual sportsmanship award just calculated on penalty minutes?

cheers to all the players,
wayne
