There are two version of the poem published in the New Directions collection of Pound's Early Poems. On page 226 of that volume, at end of first version, editor Michael King notes:
From Umbra (1920), where table of contents notes "unpublished 1912."
Second version has editor's note at the end saying:
From typescript and manuscripts in the Pound Archive
so, Alchemist written in 1912, published in Pound's Umbra 1920, and another version that can be found in the Pound Archive, Yale University library.
