UMaine Women's Hockey Defeats Cornell, 4-0

ITHACA, N.Y.-- The Maine Black Bears went into the first intermission
with a 1-0 lead and came out strong in the second period, earning their
third win of the season in a 4-0 victory over Cornell in women's hockey
this afternoon at Lynah Rink.

Maine scored the first goal of the contest halfway into the first
period when senior defenseman Tracy Caridade found junior forward Jarin
Sjogren, who trickled the puck past Big Red goaltender Liz Connelly
(Kanata, Ont.) for a power play goal.

Leading 1-0 early in the second period, the Black Bears put pressure on
the Big Red and were able to come up with a pair of unassisted goals in
just under one minute. Sophomore forward Meagan Aarts recovered an
errant Big Red pass at 6:46 and skated pass the Cornell defense to
score her fourth goal of the season. Thirty-eight seconds later, junior
Nicole Munro tallied her third goal of the year to give Maine a
commanding 3-0 victory. Aarts added another goal, this time on a Black
Bear power play, at 13:33 of the second to seal the win.

Senior Amanda Cronin picked up her second win of the season, making 15
saves to earn the shutout. Connelly made 24 saves for Cornell.

The two teams will return to the ice at Lynah Rink to finish a two-game
set tomorrow, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m.
