That's certainly true in the Hebrew Bible (i.e., Torah) we've mentioned
here a few times. In addition to the vowel markings (which came later)
under certain letters, there are intonation markings above and below
each word which, according to tradition, were given to Moses at the same
time as the Torah itself.
 
It's quite an experience to attend an Orthdox Jewish service and hear
the Torah being read (spoken, not sung) out loud by the "cantor," using
the ancient intonation-markings of the words. BTW, I wonder how EP would
feel about all this Jewish stuff being discussed on an internet forum
dedicated to himself. [:=)>
