WOMEN'S HOCKEY TIES TENTH-RANKED PRINCETON

Princeton, N.J. - The University of Maine women's hockey team tied the
Princeton Tigers 2-2 in this afternoon's non-conference game in Princeton,
N.J. Princeton (5-2-2) had the early 2-0 lead, but Maine (3-5-1) fought back
to tie the tenth-ranked Tigers.

Princeton jumped out to the early lead as Rebecca Stewart and Gretchen
Anderson each notched first period goals in the first six minutes of play.
But the Black Bears settled down and didn't allow another goal the rest of
the way. Maine goaltender Lara Smart (Airdrie, Alberta) and Tiger goalie
Sarah Ahlquist each made 11 saves in the first frame, but Princeton held the
2-0 advantage.

At 4:39 of the second period, Maine finally lit the lamp as Cindy Biron
netted her first goal of the season on assists from Rebecca Culver (Topsham,
Maine) and Andrea Steranko (Regina, Saskatchewan). Both teams were tough on
the defensive end as Princeton managed eight second-period shots, while
Maine tested Ahlquist only six times in the period.

The Black Bears drew even at 5:49 of the third period when Nicole Munro
(Egmondville, Ontario) put home her second goal of the season on assists
from Meagan Aarts (Watford, Ontario) and Kate Hartley (Duxbury, Mass.) to
tie the game at two apiece. Hartley's assist was her first point at the
collegiate level.

The two teams played a scoreless overtime to finish in a 2-2 tie.

Smart (1-4-1) finished with 28 saves on 30 shots in 65 minutes of work,
while Ahlquist made 22 saves on 24 Maine shots.

Maine is back in action tomorrow afternoon as it travels to New Haven, Conn.
to take on Yale University at 2:00 p.m.
