I want to thank "Francis P. Gavin" <[log in to unmask]> for rejoining
the conversation after a bit of an absence.

I would like to offer him a very sincere invitation to join in the
discussion by addressing some of the specific questions addressed, or
offering topics he would like to address.

My own impression is that personal attacks are often put forward to distract
from the issue at hand. That may or may not be true in this particular
case.

I would respectfully request that you consider answering one of the
following questions:

1) Do you think Pound's political views are sympatico, and how do they
affect your reading of his poetry?

2) Do you feel that Pound's views on Chinese philosophy and Chinese history
are grounded in a genuinely ethical view of life, or is there some lack of
morality which allows Pound to conflate fascist and Confucianist philosophy?
(Or is it the case that certain aspects of fascism and Confucianism are
compatible?)

3) What do you think of POUND'S sense of humor? Give an example, if you
will, of Pound's sense of humor, at its best.

4) OR, tell us what you find most valuable in Pound's poetry, and tell us
why some people might take offense at criticism of Pound? Are Pound's words
in some sense "holy"? Is Pound a sacred figure who should be above
criticism? Or has Pound been criticized "too much," more than a poet of his
stature deserves?

Of course you should feel free to avoid these questions and post on whatever
subject interests you. If you want to compose personal attacks an
individual poster, you should, of course, feel free to do that. After you
finished personal attacks, you might, if you have the time or energy, answer
some of these other questions.

Respectfully yours,

Wei
