I just wanted to comment on both games this weekend. Friday nights
game was a big one for the Maine Hockey team. They had not played a
game in over three weeks. The question coming into the game was
whether this long vacation would hurt or help the team. It appeared to
help. Maine scored 7 goals in the game, three in the first period
alone.
Maine did struggle defensively in the game though. They gave up three
unanswered goals in the third. One of the highlights of the game was
the stellar play of goaltender Alfie Michaud. He did give up 6 goals
in the game but he also managed to stop 51 shots. This was big for
the team but more importantly it was big for Michaud who has struggled
at times this season.
Saturday nights game against BC was a good defensive game for both
teams. This was good for Maine because Defenseman Brian White didn't
play because he was ejected from the previous game for leaving the
bench. Alfie Michaud had another great game stopping 42 shots. The
tie moved both Maine and BC into a four- way- tie in Hockey East with
Northeastern and BU.
Overall it was a good weekend for UMaine Hockey. This weekend will be
another test for the team. They will host UNH for two games both
Friday and Saturday night. Due to the weather UNH had both games
canceled this last weekend. They have not played for a few weeks.
Hopefully they are rusty. Hopefully the Blackbears will build on their
current three game unbeaten streak this weekend.
