Women's Ice Hockey: UMaine takes two
At Montreal, Kelly Nelson scored off an assist from Sarah Caza 1:09 into the first period to lift UMaine to a 2-0 win on Sunday. Cindy Biron scored a power-play goal midway through the second period off an assist from Alison Lorenz of Brewer and Nicole Munro, while freshman Dawn Froats made 22 saves to earn the win for 2-0 UMaine. McGill goalie Kim St. Pierre made 44 saves on UMaine's 46 shots. On Saturday, at Trois Rivieres, Quebec, UMaine sophomore Raffi Wolf notched a hat trick to rally the Bears to a 7-3 win over the University of Quebec at Three Rivers. Sophomore Andrea Keller added two goals, freshman Nicole Munro scored her first collegiate goal, and senior Christina Hedges scored in the rout in which UMaine scored four goals in the second period to take an early 7-3 lead. Sophomore goalie Amanda Cronin of York turned away 22 of 25 shots to earn the win.
