In an effort to clear up some confusion with web broadcasts let me
provide some information. Effective September 1, 1999, WZON entered
into a contract with broadcastsports.com to take all of their UMaine
athletic events for broadcast on the internet. This is not meant to
compete in anyway with the efforts of WMEB and their web efforts or
fund-raising for web broadcasts.
WZON, in cooperation with the University, has been working for over
two years to get their broadcasts on the internet. In fact, the
football games are already on. Because WZON broadcasts all UMaine men's
ice hockey games, this means all UMaine games will be available on the
internet. The connection is available at broadcastsports.com or
zoneradio.com. It should also be known that this arrangement and
contract is in place at no cost to the University, its athletic
department or its supporters.
