I think that it is possible for Maine to go to Providence, but the lords
of NCAA may also look at the distance from BC to Providence and send
them there in place of Maine.
NCAA guidelines are strong on the subject of avoiding intradivisional
match ups in first round, and as it now stands, Maine and BC would each
be 2nd seeds. Second seed plays third, and first plays fourth in each
regional. So if it ended just like the below pwr ranking, Maine and BC
could _not_ be sent to the same venue for the above two reasons. I don't
know if a higher ranked team within a seeding group (Maine 5th vs BC
8th), would get first choice at a nearby regional.
But if season ends as below, it is much more likely that Maine goes to
Worcester as a second seed, with BU (which _has_ to go to Worcester as
host school) as the no.1 seed there. BC would go as second seed to
Povidence, as close as you can get to Chestnut Hill.
Between first seeds UNH and Cornell, one would go to Worcester, the
other would go West. If attendance is high factor, then, no doubt, UNH
would go to Worcester as they would draw more fans there than Cornell
who would go to Michigan as a no.1 seed there.
