Subject: MLA genealogy group: finding obituaries, Monday 27 March

 Hi, everyone!

The next program for the Maine Library Association genealogy interest
group will cover finding obituaries and death notices. These
newspapers items can be tremendously helpful for researching families
when more "official" records are scant. Obituaries can also cover less
formal relationships (such as unmarried significant others) and
provide insight into a person's life that can lead to finding further
records.

 Register here https://www.mainelibraries.org/event-5217784 [1] to
join us Monday, 27 March at 5:15 p.m.

Free for MLA members; $5 for non-members.
If you can't make Monday, the program will be recorded for those who
register but can't attend.

Anyone else have experience with this tedious phenomenon and/or have

 Facts of the matter:
-loading from library, from home, from other library - same thing if
not
 longer
-started 6 months ago and prior to that no issue when having 100 plus
items

-we've experimented reducing the items to 20 and still same issue.

I've worked with the developer Jon Lorang, and he's great! We have
ours
autoloading as we enter them in the catalog at
www.thompsonfreelibrary.org,
it saves us so much staff time (and looks nice!) I also worked with
him to
get images working on DVDs, since they use UPC I believe and not
ISBNs.
Again, all autoloaded when we catalog them. Depending on your system
(we're
in Evergreen) it may be more difficult, but I'm sure he could help,
or
maybe I can? His email is: [log in to unmask]

Again, he's great and that bookshelves app is great for our library!
We
have people that are putting books on hold within minutes of us
cataloging
them. You have to write a specific query, ours is in Evergreen
Supercat, so
it probably wouldn't work for your library, but I'm more than happy
to try
 to help!
