New MSL Library Development Director!
We are excited to share the news that Marijke Visser has been offered the position of Director of Library Development, and we are very pleased she accepted.
Please join me in congratulating Marijke on this exciting promotion!
Marijke has significant library related experience working for the American Library Association (ALA) and with the Maine State Library over the last 6 months. Her work with ALA exposed her to many of the national and state-related trends that often are associated with the Director of Library Development responsibilities. These include, but are not limited to, Library School and Technology Act funding, Digital Equity Access, continuing education, public speaking and advancing library initiatives, etc. Additionally, as a Section Supervisor at the Maine State Library, Marijke has gained valuable insight into many aspects of Library Development, including managing a team of MSL Librarian Specialized Services positions and Continuing Education/Professional Development efforts.
She has a demonstrated awareness of leadership responsibilities and an awareness of the complexities associated with multiple projects taking place at once, and since her time at MSL, has integrated herself into broader state-agency related efforts/initiatives - most notably her role on the Maine Connectivity Authority's Digital Equity Act steering committee.
With Marijke's promotion, she will work with Adam Fisher and Alison Maxell very closely to round-out the "Leadership" team at MSL.
Marijke's official start date in the new role is still TBD as we work with HR to estimate when the transition can happen but likely officially in the end of August.
I am thrilled that Marijke was selected by the search committee and she will be a topnotch Library Development Director.
Congratulations to her and to all of you to have such a talented new leader here at the Maine State Library!
