GENERAL INFORMATION:           Department:    Library

Status:             Full Time, 37.5 hours/week
Grade:             17 [starting at $21.00/hour]

SUMMARY: The City of Lewiston (Lewiston Public Library) is seeking an individual with excellent customer service and technology skills to work as a Library Technician II in the Adult & Teen Services Department.

WORK ACTIVITIES:  This position is responsible for coordinating library services for teens, though working with patrons of all ages is required. Preferred candidates will possess a high level of technology, reference and information-discovery skills, and the ability to manage their time efficiently while multitasking. Other desirable qualifications include strong written and oral communication skills; energy, initiative, patience, and assertiveness; ability to develop a rapport with teens; and ability to plan and present programs for teens and design promotional materials. Job duties include assisting library members of all ages in locating and using resources and information, teen collection development, teen programming, working as part of a team to manage the Library's communications and publicity, and working collaboratively with community partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An Associate's degree in Library Science or a related field is required; a Bachelor's degree with at least 8 credit hours of coursework in Library Science is preferred. Ideal candidates will possess a high level of computer literacy, reference and information discovery skills, experience working directly with diverse teen populations, and the creativity and initiative to develop and present a variety of engaging library programs for teens.

Other desirable skills include: Experience designing promotional materials in print and digital formats, strong written and oral communication skills, effective time management skills, patience, assertiveness, and comfort working with patrons and coworkers of diverse ages and backgrounds. The ability to speak multiple languages and/or coursework or training related to the stages of adolescent development or trauma-informed practices is a plus.

SCHEDULE: Hours may vary, but the regular work schedule will be Monday through Thursday from 10-6:00 and Friday from 9-5:00, with rotating Saturdays required. Lewiston Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10-7:00 and Friday and Saturday from 10-5:00.
