Mike McHugh to be a 2006 inductee into the University of Maine Sports
Hall of Fame!

McHugh played ice hockey for Maine during the 1984-85, 85-86, 86-87,
and 87-88 seasons. He was an All-American choice in 1988 when he
became the first and only the third all-time Maine player to be
named New England Player of the Year. McHugh was also the first and
only the fourth Maine player to be selected Hockey East Player of
the Year. He was an All-Hockey East choice in 1988 and was also New
England's top defensive forward in 1987 and 1988. McHugh was captain
as a junior and senior, when Maine advanced to the NCAA Tournament
for the first time in program history, and also advanced to its
first Frozen Four. His 152 career points ranks 12th all-time at
Maine and was 3rd when he closed his Black Bear career. McHugh
played in 20 NHL games over four years with Minnesota and San Jose,
his pro career lasted 11 seasons, ending in 1997-98 with the Hershey
Bears.
