Well as a 3rd-yr student I would like to comment on a couple of things.

1) The balcony was packed and I saw students distributed in other areas
throughout Alfond which is a good sign. There were some empty seats
but not many(less than I expected to see) and definately no less than
most other home games in the last 3-yrs under normal conditions(non-BU,
UNH games, no storms...you get my drift) so as far as student support,
it's definately there in a big way.

2) Cheers, wow for the first time in three years we were chanting
SIEVE,SIEVE at times other than right after the guy gave up a goal. IT
was great and there were a lot more than I have ever heard before.
There was a certain electricity about the game tonight that was great
even though Maine was expected to roll-over the Moncton team.

3) Mike Morrison is the man! I mean sure this wasn't BC he was facing
but he still made several GREAT saves and a shut-out is a shut-out. He
definately impressed me tonight. A little healthy competition between
Alfie and him won't hurt a thing, it can only help this team. And with
2 shut-outs already that's a good sign.

4) Band noise, well I am impartial since I was sitting DIRECTLY next to
them. My left ear is still ringing...So I don't know how the noise
spread throughout the building but it was loud up in the balcony and it
also made it hard to hear the NEW siren(after maine goals). I don't
know how it was in other parts of the arena.

This is by far the most exciting team game one that I have seen in 3
years. They made some little mistakes and whatever but they were
clicking real well for the most part and didn't look as lost as they
have previously in home weekend #1. That is definately a good sign. I
am really excited and judging by the rest of the MAINE-IACS in the
stands so are a lot of other people.

I wanted to comment on ticket distribution from my perspective. I
think the old system worked out well for everyone involved. I mean if
they had the distributions posted mor prominately and for a little
longer time period I am sure more students would have picked up
tickets. And therefore unused tickets could go on sale to the public.
As it stands now if I want to get in I have to get there earlier than
before so I make sure I get a ticket instead of waiting until gametime
to go. And as it stands now if my girlfriend(who doesn't go here)
wanted to go to a game with me she couldn't, or my parents for that
matter. That is the serious crime. I mean in most cases it's the
parents paying for school anyway and they can't even get in to watch a
game with their kid. That is of course if I am not missing something.
And now even if tickets were made available to the public at gametime
that would leave no one the chance to plan to go to a game. I mean the
option is drive to Orono and HOPE some become available or make other
Friday/Saturday night plans and then find out later that the game was
half empty when you would have gone if you had enough advance warning.
If tickets were available to students 2 weeks before games and then the
remaining available 1 week for the public that would work. That way you
don't have to go to random ticket distributions for a game 3 months
down the road....or worse miss that date and be stuck without a
ticket....Well that turned out to be much more than I planned but oh
well. I hope it makes sense. -Jake
