The original official Maine colors (no, I will not be forced to call the place "UMaine", which is entirely too "cutesy" for my tastes and my history with the university!) were a dark navy blue and the light powder (a/k/a Columbia) blue.  Only recently was the latter changed to this nearly North Carolina Tarheel teal ... wonder if anyone bothered to ask?  We've always been Substance at the University of Maine -- Style over Substance doesn't belong in Orono.  Okay, friends, that's my <rant> for the day!  Thanks :-)
