Hi All,

After the success of World IPv6 Day, the
ISOC<http://www.internetsociety.org/>has gotten major websites and
service providers to commit to a World
IPv6 Launch <http://www.worldipv6launch.org/> date
of June 6th.

IPv6 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6> is the next generation of Internet
Protocol, and something the Internet as a whole is transitioning to.

www.maine.edu has been IPv6-enabled for over a year now.

Some websites hosted by UM, such as the Climate Change
Institute<http://climatechange.umaine.edu/> have
also been IPv6-enabled for several months.

One goal that is reachable is to have our major public-facing
websites reachable via IPv6 before World IPv6 Launch.

For our public universities, this includes:

www.maine.edu
www.umaine.edu
www.usm.maine.edu ( how cool would "some.edu" be, ;-) )
www.uma.edu
www.farmington.edu
www.umpi.edu
www.umfk.edu
www.machias.edu

But this goal extends to all MaineREN <http://www.maineren.net/> members.

If you would like to get these, or other, websites reachable via
IPv6 please drop me a note. We can help with system
configuration (including firewall configuration) if necessary.

Even though Maine was one of the first to adopt IPv6 in a significant way,
we have lost a little momentum on IPv6 in recent years. The
network supports it, but we need your help to deploy it. We have recently
helped other institutions, including www.harvard.edu, bring their websites
live over IPv6.

A few other large schools that have IPv6 enabled on their primary website
include:

New York University (nyu.edu)
Texas A & M University (tamu.edu)
University of California, Los Angeles (ucla.edu)
University of South Florida (usf.edu)
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (wpi.edu)
