Maine beats Cornell tonight 3-2 in an exciting game in Estero, FL in the
opening round of the Everblades Hockey Classic.

From the radio broadcast, it was clear that Cornell dominated the first half
of this game, but Maine slowly started to even the play as the second period
was coming to a close, but the Big Red held a 1-0 lead after two periods.

Maine seemed to have the better edge in the third period, as they tied the
game and eventually took the lead as the Black Bears scored all three of
their goals in the last period. The game came right down to the final
seconds as Gray Shaneberger scored an empty net goal to make it 3-1, but 30
seconds later Cornell's Cam Abbott banked one in off of Maine goaltender
Frank Doyle to close within one goal.

This was an interesting game that featured two of the hottest teams in the
country, and two teams whose best two goaltenders are away with junior
national teams. Goaltending was not an issue tonight as both netminders
played well, and both teams also played great defense as well.

It will be an all-Hockey East championship game with Maine matching up with
UMass. Cornell will play Ohio State in the consolation game Sunday. Maine
beat UMass 1-0 in Orono earlier this year, so it figures to be another good
game.
