I found the play of Leveille interesting this weekend. Just that he was
playing was interesting in itself! He looked fast at times, took some
hits, and played pretty well compared to his normal excellence.
More interesting, perhaps, were events during Saturday night's game. At
one point during the game it appeared that Leveille inadvertently ran
into the referee and perhaps hit the referee's chin with his helmet. It
looked like Leveille apologized on the spot, and a conversation
continued as the referee followed Leveille back to the Maine bench.
What followed were a succession of 3 Leveille minors, with the latter
two, at least, appearing to be weak calls. The skate to the penalty box
won Leveille 10-minute and game misconduct penalties. Now it may have
been that Leveille was frustrated by his injury; it may have been that
he didn't think the referee understood French; or it may have been the
referee remembered getting hit earlier in the game.
As that referee seems, to this observer, to be one that adjusts his
calls to the situation, maybe I'm over-reacting ... anyone see it
differently?
cheers, wayne
