Morrison named Defensive Player of the Week

Edmonton Oilers Press Release

Mike Morrison
Edmonton Oilers’ goaltender Mike Morrison has been named the NHL Defensive
Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 27, 2005.

Morrison backstopped the Oilers to three consecutive victories, including
two by shootout, during the week and recorded a 1.58 goals-against average
and .933 save percentage to earn the League honour.

Morrison began the week with 21 saves in a 2-1 shootout win versus the San
Jose Sharks on Monday, November 21st. He stopped two of the three shootout
attempts he faced versus the Sharks. Following the win over San Jose,
Morrison and the Oilers went on the road and the first-year netminder
recorded back-to-back road victories.

The road trip began with Morrison making 25 saves in the Oilers 4-3 win at
Minnesota on Wednesday, November 23rd and he stopped another 27 shots in a
2-1 shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Friday, November 25th. In his
second shootout in three games, Morrison turned aside all four attempts and
has now stopped six of seven shots in his two shootout victories.

Recalled from the Greenville Grrrowl (ECHL) on October 24th, Morrison has
played in six NHL games this season and has won all four of his starts. He
is 4-0-0 with a 1.38 goals-against average and .944 save percentage in his
six games with the Oilers this season.

The Oilers return to action tomorrow night as they host the Colorado
Avalanche at 7:00 p.m. in the first game of a three-game homestand at Rexall
Place. Edmonton will also host the Vancouver Canucks (7:00 pm on Thursday,
December 1st) and Boston Bruins (Saturday, December 3rd at 8:00 p.m.).
