Davie is indeed a fine critic of Pound--usually.
But I believe he made a mess of
"Mauberley," trying to read it as a dramatic monologue, which it patently
isn't. I have a piece in Paideuma (Spring '89) that tries to sort out the
pieces. But Davie's influence still obscures one of EP's most frequently
read early poems.
