I bet this was as close to an order from the top as there is.

From the Associated Press ...

ORONO, Maine (AP) -- Maine hockey coach Tim Whitehead has apologized to
Hockey East referees for his behavior following Saturday's penalty-filled
loss to Boston University at Alfond Arena.
Whitehead and the referees exchanged words as they were walking off the
ice following the Terriers' 3-0 victory that gave them back-to-back wins
over Maine. The referees gave Whitehead a 10-minute misconduct.
"We expect our head coaches, like our athletes and officials, to show
restraint in the middle of the heat of battle," Hockey East Commissioner
Joe Bertagna said Wednesday. "Tim has always conducted himself
appropriately. I am pleased he has acknowledged this uncharacteristic
lapse in judgment."
While declining to offer details about what Whitehead said, Bertagna noted
that Maine and the conference observe a code of conduct that specifically
addresses public criticism of officials.
The shouting match followed a game in which the Black Bears racked up 67
minutes of penalties. One Maine player was thrown out of the game and two
others were given 10-minute misconducts.
"The events that took place at the conclusion of Saturday night's game
were an unfortunate ending to a tough weekend series," said Blake James,
Maine athletic director. "I am confident that the players, coaches and
officials involved recognize the importance of demonstrating good sportsmanship."
