ORONO, Maine --University of Maine men's ice hockey coach Tim Whitehead
is adding Guy Perron, a two-time Black Bear captain who has already
served as an assistant coach three times, to his staff as associate
head coach.

Perron, who played four years at Maine appearing in 136 games, has
spent the past two seasons as head coach of the UMaine women's ice
hockey program.

He will succeed Grant Standbrook, who is retiring and taking a role as
volunteer assistant with the team.

"We are excited to have Guy rejoin the men's ice hockey program as
associate head coach," Whitehead said in a prepared statement. "Guy is
a fabulous person and an outstanding coach and recruiter."

As head coach of the UMaine women's program, Perron posted an overall
record of 31-24-9. The team set a school record for wins in 2005-06,
finishing at 17-9-6 and advancing to the Hockey East semifinals.

"I am excited about the position as it is a great opportunity," Perron
said. "While I am sad to be leaving the women's ice hockey program, I
know that they are on the right track. This is a once in a lifetime
opportunity and great for me and my family."

Perron was captain of the Black Bears in 1988-89 and 1989-90. He scored
62 goals and had 84 assists for 146 career points and left Maine ranked
ninth on the school's career goals and career assists lists and seventh
in career points.

After graduation from Maine with a degree in education, Perron played
professionally in Sweden.

Perron, who also holds a master's degree in education from the
University of Maine, was an assistant coach with the men's program in
1991-92, 1994-95 and 2003-04 before being named head coach of the
women's program.

Perron coached the Chicago Freeze of the North American Hockey League
from 1997 through 2003 as the team compiled a record of 167-150-19.

Previously, Perron was an assistant coach at Dartmouth College from
1995 through 1997.

He also coached at Bangor High School from 1992-1994.
