Maine out-shoots UMass, 50-24, but can't get a W. While ties aren't all
that delicious, they are much, much better than an 'L' at this point ...
ORONO, Maine (AP) -- Chris Capraro scored two goals Friday as
Massachusetts salvaged a 2-2 tie at No. 7 Maine.
Despite being out-shot 24-5 in the second period and 50-24 for the game,
the Minutemen (13-19-2, 10-14-2 Hockey East) hung around thanks in large
part to goaltender Jon Quick, who made 48 saves. Rob Bellamy assisted on
both Black Bear (23-10-2, 16-8-2 Hockey East) goals, finding Bret Tyler
12:24 into the second period and then Jon Jankus less than three minutes
later. Capraro's first goal came between Maine's two second period goals.
With Maine on top 2-1 late in the third and less than three minutes to
play in regulation, Massachusetts went on the power play. Capraro pounced
on a rebound of teammate Marvin Degon's shot to tie the game and force
overtime.
Black Bear goaltender Ben Bishop made 22 saves.
