With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it's time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #1, in which the later
rounds were weighted more than the earlier ones, the overall winner is...
Nick Markham
whose 259 points were nine better than runner-up Wayne Smith.
Congratulations to Nick, who today must consider himself the LUCKIEST
SO-AND-SO ON THE FACE OF -- uh, excuse me, whose prognosticating ability
now stands second to none.
As for the individual conference winners...
In a close race, Wayne Smith finished atop the ECACHL with 67 points.
Hockey East saw a tie for first between Jim Dixon and Craig Roberts, with
Jim taking the first tiebreaker, as his predicted championship-game score
was one point closer than Craig's. This marks the second straight year
that Jim has won the Hockey East contest in a tiebreaker.
Wayne Smith's 57 points were good for first place in the CCHA race.
The WCHA title went to Jim Edwards with 56 points.
And here's a real upset -- your humble and wildly lucky contest
administrator topped the Atlantic Hockey race with 44 points.
From last week's update, Thom Davis won the CHA race in a tiebreaker, with
a perfect 40 points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 3-1) to be 4-2,
you would get two points; if you picked 1-0, you would get three points;
and if you picked 5-4, you would get five points. Obviously, the lower
point score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For Hockey East, the championship game score was 3-1.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 3-0.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.

"ESPN Radio would like to take a moment of silence for the cancelled NHL
season. All right, glad that's taken care of, what's next?"
