How bad did University of Maine senior captain and Hobey Baker
award finalist Jim Montgomery want teammate Paul Kariya to win
the Hobey?
 
Well, Montgomery went so far as compiling a video tape of Kariya's
season highlights and sending it to the Hobey Baker selection com-
mittee. The Maine Campus sports writer Chad Finn reported in last
Wednesday's paper Montgomery made the tape so voters from the west
who hadn't seen Kariya play could see how deserving Kariya was.
 
Montgomery and Kariya have become such great friends Montgomery's
mother congratulated Kariya with a kiss. She said in Finn's article
Montgomery took Kariya in during breaks when Kariya had to leave
his dormitory, and the Montgomerys got to know Kariya. Dorothy
Montgomery said she regards Kariya as another son.
