Hello fellow JBS's,
I helped out with tree identification at the local high school this week (Boothbay), something I do most years. Anyway, the biology teacher said this is the last year she will be doing the unit on botany since she has been told not to waste time teaching subjects that are not on the Maine Learning Results. The Maine Learning Results have resently been passed by the state and students from schools need to be proficient in the areas addressed to graduate and for the schools to remain accredited. She said that some of the biology teachers raised concerns that botany is not included, but have been ignored. She said: "It would probably help tremendously if you could get a group to respond to this inadequacy in high school biology course work."
I know that JBS does not like to be political, but this seems like the time to write the Govenor and legislators from both the house and senate. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks, Lauren Stockwell
