        PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars upset the 7th-ranked
New
Hampshire Wildcats, 6-1, in HOCKEY EAST action on Friday, November 6 at
PC's
Schneider Arena.
        In an evenly played first period, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard
first
when forward Matt Swain wristed in a rebound from the left side at 3:14
of
the first period.  In the closing seconds of period, PC forward Jon
Cameron
worked the puck down low and sent a backhanded pass from behnind the
net to
an open Troy Lake who one-timed a shot high into the net at 19:50 to
even
the score at 1-1.
        The PC offense came to life in the second period as the Friars tallied
three unanswered goals.  Doug Sheppard gave PC its first lead of the
game
when he blasted in a high slapshot from the right face off circle at
8:07.
PC struck again quickly as Jerry Keefe blasted a slap shot through UNH
goaltender Sean Matile's five hole at the 9:09 mark.  PC's final goal
of the
period was scored by Marc Suderman as he backhanded a rebound high over
Matile at 17:52 of the second for his first collegiate goal.
        The Friars continued their offensive play in the third period as Mike
Omicioli netted a pair of goals at 4:48 and 12:29 to seal the win for
the
Friars.
        PC sophomore goaltender Boyd Ballard played strong in net, making a
season
high 30 saves for the Friars.  Matile recorded 15 saves for the Wildcats
        With the win, Providence raised its record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in
HOCKEY
EAST play, while New Hampshire fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in league
play.
        Providence College will return to action against New Hampshire on
Saturday,
November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at UNH's Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
