Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Education Coordinator

 

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, is seeking a permanent, full-time Education
Coordinator.

 

CMBG, located in the scenic coastal town of Boothbay, Maine, is one of the
country's most exciting new botanical gardens currently under construction.
Through the creation  of ornamental gardens and the preservation of natural
landscapes CMBG seeks to collect, protect and showcase the botanical
heritage of Maine.

 

This unique mission is possible because the Gardens' 248-acres along the
Atlantic shore offer both a dramatic, magnificent landscape and a remarkable
diversity of plant and habitats.   Along with existing new gardens and
several miles of natural trails, CMBG is constructing a state-of-the-art
Visitor & Education Center and 7-acres of ornamental gardens to open in late
summer of 2006. 

 

Responsibilities: The Education Coordinator's responsibilities will include:
planning and implementing year-round horticultural, botanical and
environmental education classes, lectures, field trips and special event
programs for adults, youth, family and school groups.  

 

This position will also help plan and coordinate docent training for
volunteers to lead educational tours of the gardens and grounds; coordinate
the production of interpretive materials for the gardens and grounds; and
assist with other related educational tasks as needed. 

 

Qualifications:  A B.S. in horticulture, botany, environmental education or
related field is required along with at least 3 years of public
program/education planning. Experience in working with volunteers, a wide
range of ages and abilities is also preferred. 

 

Salary is commensurate with experience.
