Lupinus arboreus to my knowledge is NOT hardy here in Maine...is not yellow but is blue and is a true shrub not herbaceous....I only base this on my knowledge as having seen the plant in California and growing Lupinus arboreus at my place of work..Plainview Farm in N.Yarmouth...where all 15 plants we grew from seed last year...died over the winter inside a low heated Greenhouse during the winter. I'll have to do some more research but could it be they're thinking of Thermopsis caroliniana?
My computer is a bit messed up so I'm trying to send this back to you Rick so you can forward to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Society...also what does Newfs have for data?
