...and second...and third....

Dan and I just got back from Burlington (the final stop on our
sports-related mini vacation). This afternoon's win was definitely the
highlight of our weekend.

We survived most of the Baseball Hall of Fame being "renovated for your
future enjoyment". There's still quite a bit to see (and too much Yankee
Stuff); however, if you are planning a trip to Cooperstown, I would wait
until they finish with the renovations (2005).

In return for Dan "forcing" me to watch Maine Hockey (yea, he really twists
my arm), I forced him to travel to Syracuse to watch my alma mater (Rutgers,
a wimpy school without a hockey team) wrestle defeat from the jaws of
victory against the Orangemen (how do you EVER get a delay of game penalty
after the OTHER team calls Time Out, and you still have two of yours left).
Dan was able to have a few laughs when he found out that two of the people
at the Rutgers alumni function we attended indicated they liked college
hockey because they attended UNH.

The game in Burlington made up for all of this. I don't think that I've
lost the smile that lit up my face when the Black Bears took the ice for
warm-ups. Overall, I was very impressed with what I saw on the ice. Maine
took a four goal lead by outshooting UVM 18-6 in the first period. Maybe
they finally learned that when you shoot the puck on net, good things
happen.

The UVM fans are also pretty nice - when we got on the shuttle bus to the
arena, the driver welcomed us to Vermont. I think that Dan and I must have
sat next to the one obnoxious UVM fan in the place -- he took great
exception when we started shouting "sieve" at the UVM goalie.

BRING ON NORTH DAKOTA!!!!!
