I was born into Red Sox Nation and bred with a Red Sox sports fan mentality,
which sometimes translates itself in Maine Hockey terms as a glass
half-empty kind of guy. Perhaps it is the strong October showing by the
Olde Towne 9, but I for one am not down on this team... yet.

First, the discussion of stats in October is silly. If Jimmy Howard rips
off 2 or 3 shutouts a month Nov-March, no one will care about October. And
by the way, it isn't like he's suddenly a sieve. The accounts I heard of
the game Friday night vs. St. Lawrence was that he was quite good.

No doubt that Maine is frustratingly inconsistent currently, but with a
goaltender like Howard there is not a team in the country that Maine can't
beat on any given night. Would you want to play Maine in March with a
talent like Howard between the pipes?

It is unfortunate we did not perform better to start the year. Three home
losses is pretty shocking (2 vs. a great team in NoDak), but the league
schedule starts for us on Friday and I think in the long-run Maine is still
a home-ice team in Hockey East and that should put us right where we want to
be, a shot at the NCAA Tournament. Starting out 2-0 in Hockey East would
sure help calm the masses!!
