I am about a week too late in posting this (because I couldn't find the time to look it up sooner) but when Maine lost that second game to North Dakota I was struck by the fact that Maine always seems to start the season on a GREAT note. No matter
who the competition is.

So other than 96-97 and 90-91 when they lost the season openers, you have to go all the way back to 85-86 to find a time that a Maine team had a losing record at the start of the year (first 3 games) (worse than 0-1). Not that it means a darn
thing but lets hope that last weekend was the start of something good and they can continue it this weekend.

Also interesting to note that the Maine Hockey pdf that I got this information from, shows the years 1922-23 and 1923-24 as the "first" years of UMaine Hockey. Although in those days they mostly played Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, they did beat BU in
their first ever meeting 4-2 during the second season of Maine Hockey existence.

NOW I want to hear from those of you who were on board back in those "olden days" before Maine Hockey started being a national power:)
