Bob Nichols raised the this question, and I thought I'd take a shot at it!
Where does Niko's game winner rank on the list of all-time great Maine
goals?
Since the game "only" meant a Hockey East championship I can't rank it
higher than the OT winners in last year's frozen four. Or higher than
Monty's GW goal in '93 Championship game.
If nothing else it should create some debate and I'd look forward to others
adding their two cents!
Top 10 Maine goals of all time from most recent to long ago!
1. Niko beats the clock
2. The Goal- Marcus wins National Championship
3. Shermerhorn wins the longest Game vs. Michigan
4. Montgomery from Kariya to win NC$$ #1
5. Saunders scores in OT to send us to Championship game
6. Same game Ingraham ties the game from Montgomery
7. Martin Robitaille sends Maine to the frozen 4 in OT vs. Providence
8. Same Game Pellerin blasts one to tie the score
9. Bruce Major scores while sprawled on the ice behind the net to beat BC
for HE
Championship game #1.
10. Mike McHugh scores to culminate a great come back to beat Lowell in the
HE
semi-final to win game and send Maine to their first HE title game.
Special Mention to Goalie Jim Torterella who scored against Vasby Sweden
(?). I believe it was the first time a goalie shot the puck down the ice
and scored while another goalie was in net.
I'm sure I missed a few, but these were based on games that meant something
at the end of the year. Interesting to note that they are from 10
different players!
Please add a few of your own.
